Android Auto or Android Automotive: what are the differences?

Google has two systems designed for the automotive industry, living together in peace, but the idea of the American giant is to kill one so that the other can fly freely and position itself as the most widely used option in the world.

The motor world is not divided only into Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although it may seem that it is, because they are the two great options of Apple and Google, one of the companies has another service running.

This is called Android Automotive and it comes to replace Android Auto, in a movement that the people of Google will understand because it is difficult for us to understand in the middle of the explosion of the connected car where getting a single standard is already complicated.

Despite this, Google believes that Android Automotive is the future of the sector and that is why they are putting all their eggs in the same basket.

And, as has happened to all of us, you are most likely wondering: how are these two systems that are so similar from the outside different? Let's explain it.

For starters, unlike Android AutoAndroid Automotive is a full-featured operating system developed by Google in collaboration with Intel.

Rather, it is a retouched version of Android itself that offers greater integration with Google services , including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play.

As such, it is not a fork or parallel development of Android, but is based on the same code as the versions of Android that are distributed on phones and tablets. Which means that users do not need an Android phone to use the new software , since Google services are already preloaded in the car.
